National Youth Week

Celebrate youth in our communities from May 1st - 7th!

National Youth Week is a yearly celebration of young people and their contributions to their communities. It takes place from May 1-7 and is a movement driven by local communities across Canada.

  • Celebrate and engage with youth-led activities, workshops, and community-building initiatives throughout the week. 

  • Special programs will take place across various locations, providing youth with an opportunity to showcase their talents, learn new skills, and connect with their peers. 

  • Youth-focused events will explore creativity, leadership, and mental wellness, promoting positive role models and civic engagement.

Staff vs Youth Basketball Game & Youth Awards

Staff vs Youth Basketball Game: Watch a thrilling match where staff face off against youth in a friendly competition! 

Youth Awards Ceremony: Recognizing exceptional youth who have shown dedication in attending programs, volunteering, and being positive role models in the community. 

Youth-Led Workshops (during halftime): 

  • Literacy Express Train: Poems & short story writing 

  • Art Room: Canvas painting 

  • Music Room: Live song/dance performance 

  • Computer Room: Slide show or smart board presentation 

Creating Opportunities for Youth Engagement

When? May 1st - 7th Where? Various youth centre locations For Who? All Youth for on-site activities, BGC Youth for off-site activities

Weekly Activities

Daily unique activities will include: 

  • Pottery Making Trip 

  • Lazer Mania 

  • Pizza Night 

Note: Trips away from the centre will require BGC membership, but events at the youth centre are open to all youth without this requirement.

Make Art - Keychain Creation

Learn the craft of keychain creation in this hands-on workshop for teens.

Beginner’s Sewing Workshop

Make a Reusable Pad workshop in partnership with the Help a Girl Out Organization to teach teens sewing skills for making reusable pads.

Pop-Up Workshop

Support youth with strategies to get organized, focusing on scheduling, school assignments, and problem-solving.

Improv Comedy Workshop

This workshop will help youth challenge anxiety by acting out situations in a safe, supportive environment. 

Community Outreach

Resource Table

A resource table with valuable information for youth in the community, focusing on positive development and local opportunities. 

Hamilton Youth Town Hall

Model City Hall

A full-day event where youth aged 14-29 can engage with local decision-makers. The event will feature interactive sessions about how city decisions are made and ways youth can get involved in local governance.
